Tax Planning and Disputes

- Tax-exempt organizations and private foundations
Tax planning and disputes can be triggered by every business transaction. Our attorneys design tax-efficient methods to complete proposed transactions. In tax disputes, the government often argues the taxpayer chose the form of the transaction and cannot seek relief from unexpected taxes by showing another method could have reached the same result tax-free. Our tax-planning services help business and individuals accomplish their goals with a minimum tax burden. We advise businesses under Subchapters C and S, LLCs, and partnerships under the partnership tax system, fiduciaries or trusts and estates, tax-exempt entities, and individuals.
We represent taxpayers in disputes with federal, state, and local taxing authorities and represent taxpayers in court against the government. As a part of this type of representation, we have negotiated settlements for our taxpayer clients with the Internal Revenue Service and the North Carolina Department of Revenue, such as installment payment plans, offers in compromise, or currently not collectible status. |
